Indian restaurants in Torrevieja: how to pick a good one

Freshly baked naan, dal and curry served at Enjoy Indian, Torrevieja

Torrevieja and the southern Costa Blanca now have several Indian restaurants to pick from. Good news if you like this cuisine — but it also raises the obvious question: which one is genuinely authentic, and which one just looks the part?

There are a few reliable signs. The first is the tandoor oven: a cylindrical clay oven that reaches very high temperatures and gives chicken tikka or naan that smoky edge you simply can't get from a regular oven. If an Indian restaurant doesn't have one, its tandoori dishes will struggle to taste the same.

The second is real spice variety, not just generic "curry powder". A genuinely authentic Indian restaurant tells apart garam masala, cumin, ground coriander, turmeric and the specific blend for each dish — a proper chicken tikka masala shouldn't taste the same as a vindaloo or a korma, even though many places make them sound interchangeable.

It's also worth checking whether there's something for everyone: real vegetarian dishes with paneer (not just tofu), adjustable spice levels, and some room for allergies or intolerances. On our menu we try to keep every category (starters, tandoori, curry, biryani, sides) clearly covered, including vegetarian and shellfish-free options.

Finally, logistics: for anyone living in La Zenia, Guardamar or Los Balcones, seasonal home delivery (November to March, 20 km radius) makes the difference between ordering every week or only when you happen to be near the centre.
